Does having a powerful engine mean you have to sacrifice economy? The answer is no, if you're driving a Ford Fusion. The 2.5L Duratec® I-4 engine generates 175 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft of torque, while delivering impressive city and highway mpg.* And imagine getting 41 miles per gallon and being able to travel more than 700 miles on a single tank of gas in city traffic.** That's the kind of mileage you can expect to get in a Fusion Hybrid.

An electric motor powered by an innovative nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) battery. And the 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I-4 gas engine. The combined energy of these two sources supplies the power for the Fusion Hybrid. A full hybrid, Fusion can start off from a complete stop and travel at light to normal acceleration up to 47 miles per hour on electric power alone, with no fuel used. The I-4 gas engine kicks in extra power when needed, such as in passing or merging situations, and provides the main source of power above 47 mph. Both the gas engine and the electric motor combine to deliver a maximum 191 net horsepower.

The responsive, available 3.0L Duratec V6 is flex fuel-capable. Run on unleaded gasoline, E85 (up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), or any mix of the two. Fuel injection and spark timing are adjusted automatically according to the blend detected by electronic sensors. Your flex-fuel engine lets you fill up wherever you are, even if E85 isn't readily available.

The exclusive dual LCD SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide* is an innovative gauge cluster that provides real-time information to help you get the most efficiency from your Fusion Hybrid. SmartGauge™ with EcoGuide uses dual liquid crystal display (LCD) screens on either side of the center-mounted speedometer. A tutorial built into the display lets you choose one of four data screens for the level of information you want — Inform, Enlighten, Engage or Empower — and explains your options within each. Steering wheel-mounted controls make it all easy. All levels can indicate instant fuel economy; fuel economy history; odometer; engine coolant temperature; plus trip data including fuel economy, time-elapsed fuel economy and miles to empty. Watch the display grow leaves when you drive efficiently. Or watch them fade when you don't. More leaves = more mpg. This green motivator works during any of the four display modes.

Included in the available Navigation System* is the Hybrid Energy Flow Display. It lets you track the powertrain's four modes of operation — Hybrid Drive, Electric Drive, Gas Engine and Idle Charging, plus instant and average fuel economy — to know how efficiently your Fusion Hybrid is operating and how economically you're driving.

The standard Easy Fuel® capless fuel filler has an integrated spring-loaded flapper door that lets you simply insert the fuel nozzle to fill up. No screw cap is required. And because Easy Fuel automatically seals after the fuel nozzle is removed, fewer evaporative emissions are released into the environment.

When you apply the brakes in a conventional vehicle, kinetic energy is lost to heat due to friction. During braking in the Fusion Hybrid, however, the regenerative braking system recovers over 90 percent of this energy that is normally lost and sends it back to the battery pack to be stored for later use. Not only is regenerative braking efficient, but it also helps minimize wear on the brake pads, lowering the cost of maintenance.

Earth-friendly seating fabric in the Fusion Hybrid is made from 85 percent post-industrial materials - polyester fibers that would otherwise have ended up in landfills.
