The available EcoBoost engine combines two different technologies – turbocharging and direct injection – to deliver the performance of a V6 engine with the economy and fuel efficiency of an I-4 engine. Compared to a naturally aspirated engine, the EcoBoost™ turbocharged direct-injection engine produces the kind of torque that you might expect from a V6. Improved transient response enabled by the direct injector reduces “turbo lag," overcoming the traditional disadvantage of downsizing and boosting. More efficient fuel consumption is the result of a high compression ratio enabled by direct injection, which provides a cooler, denser charge.

The 2012 Edge with its advanced 2.0L Ti-VCT Ecoboost engine delivers a staggering 30 miles per gallon highway fuel economy*. In addition, the 2.0L V6 engine features the advanced technology of twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT). Ti-VCT controls when the intake and exhaust valves open and close. Ti-VCT variable control of intake valve closing optimizes combustion at full load to provide improved power and low-speed torque (broadens the torque curve). It also enables variable valve overlap, which provides improved fuel economy and exhaust emissions. A six-speed SelectShift™ transmission ensures smooth launch and acceleration. Technology plays a critical role in producing a powertrain that delivers plenty of horsepower while also delivering excellent fuel economy.*

The already responsive driving performance that Edge delivers is enhanced even more when equipped with available all-wheel drive (AWD). AWD doesn't just react to wheel slip when it occurs. It predicts traction and automatically delivers the precise and proper amount of engine torque to the wheels when wheel slippage is detected. Working with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control,™ AWD can transfer torque from front to rear and side to side. While all this is going on automatically, you can stay focused on the road. That's peace of mind.

Standard AdvanceTrac® automatically applies the brakes and adjusts engine torque whenever it detects excessive wheelslip and helps to avoid skidding and fishtailing by controlling understeer and oversteer. It also helps maintain control in road conditions such as ice, gravel or rain.*

The Edge Sport features the 6-speed SelectShift™ automatic transmission with its automatic override mode that lets you enjoy the fun-to-drive performance feel of a manual with total control over gear selection. The Sport also includes paddle shifters integrated into the steering wheel spokes. Pull back on the left side to downshift, or pull back on the right side to upshift.
